Summary of Chapter 1-10
Revelation was written by John, the apostle (estimate 80-100 AD), during his exile to the island of Patmos. Emperor Domitian, who was persecuting Christians, exiled John. The estimated time that John spent in exile was 18 months. The book is called Revelation meaning "Unveiling (Revealing)", as the first verse states "The REVELATION of Jesus Christ," which God gave to show His servants things which must shortly take place. John states that he bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ.

John being in the Spirit, sees a vision of Jesus (The Alpha & the Omega, the beginning and the ending) who instructs him to write in a book what he saw and what he will see, to the seven churches listed below (which were located in Asia Minor):
Jesus tells John that He holds the keys of Hades and of Death, and He explains the mystery of the seven stars and the seven lampstands.     The letters begin "To the angel of ________", and states "I know your works.

Listed below is a table of the churches with the positive and negative remarks, as noted in Revelation Chapter 2 & 3:

The rapture occurs between Revelation 3 and 4. In Revelation between Chapter 3 and 4, something takes place. In Revelation 4:1, "After this ..." refers to after the rapture. This event marks bad news for some and very great joy for others. We call this the Rapture of the Church. You ask why I say this? Read Revelation 4:1 very slowly and listen to what you are reading. From this point on, the scene and the message change. Before we look at the new scene we need to visit the Rapture. In order to do that read Matthew 24:15-28, I Thessalonians 4:13-18, and I Corinthians 15:51-52.

John sees a door open to heaven, is summon to come and goes into the spirit which he sees:

John is instructed to go and take the little book from the mighty angel. He is to eat the book, in his mouth it will be sweet as honey but in his stomach it will be bitter. John does as he is instructed. Then John is told that he must go & prophesy before many nations, tongues, people, and kings.
